Liberty Inspiration

I am eagerly awaiting the new Liberty summer seasonals, I was so inspired by this poster from Liberty I had a little play and made this small prototype cushion. It needs some bugs ironed out. I will undo it and make it a larger floor cushion. Hope you like it.

Camberwell Market & Textiles

Anyone who knows me, knows my favourite part of the week is Sunday morning. I love the quietness of visiting the market before the crowds get there. I love the impersonality, unlike garage sales which I am not a fan. This post is what I bought today. I love fabric, lace and scarves new and old.
Some weeks you find nothing, but you never know what you will find, I have got some lovely things there over the years. If you live in Melbourne and haven't been make time,
if you are a visitor definitely make time if you love vintage.
It is held in the public carpark behind the Burke Rd, Camberwell shops between dawn and 12pm. I recommend getting there fairly early but maybe not dawn, about 9am is a good time.

Scarlet Jones Melbourne

For anyone that does not know, Scarlet Jones in Hawthorn is my store. It is found in a beautiful old building which was previously a sheetmetal work shop for 84 years. I love working there when I have a chance, as the space is very calming and fun to fill full of a very eclectic mix of all things gorgeous, new and old.
Here are a few pics of my latest display.

Still Cleaning

Am I the only one that starts cleaning and sorting with great intentions, only to get sidetracked and ending up just rearranging corners. Meanwhile total chaos in the background.
Anyway the following photo's are a few corners of my bedroom. I will leave the mess in the hallway to your imagination.

Powder case bought at market.

Applique Quilt

Here is some detail. The quilting is done with tiny hand stitches.

Melbourne! You just have to love a city, where you can be so hot one week and then cold enough to put the heater on the next!
This quilt is an old one I bought in Orange County Los Angeles. The colours are still pretty vibrant considering it's age.

It ain't half hot!

Today I said farewell my dear mum Maisie, she has been staying with me from W.A. for the last 9 weeks
I find it harder every time I put her on the plane to send her home.
You don't really think of your parents ageing when you leave home at 18 to live on the other side of the country. She has always been my inspiration!
So many of the quilts in the shop have been made by her. I will take some photo's in the next couple of weeks and post them.
I know am very lucky to have had her all these years, but it still doesn't make it easier. Hopefully i will have her for a few more. She turns 90 this year.

Anyway thought you would like the colour combination of the cherries and the gorgeous orange in the centre of my bowl.
The flower necklace was a vest in it's last life, also very pretty for a belt.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to a new year. I always love this time of year, as it begins with such anticipation and plans for a fresh start.
I have been working in Patchwork the last two weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
It has been nice reconnecting with many of my old customers and just basically playing .
I looked at the shop with fresh eyes and then set about renewing the displays and giving it a good clean. I must say myself it now looks fabulous!
I have posted some piccy's.
There is nothing quite like, the feeling you get after cleaning out a room. Then sitting quietly in it afterwards.
I love that feeling.
